CONTINENTAL POLICE DEPARTMENT OFFICERS:

Chief of Police: Arnie Hardy

Chief Hardy is a graduate of Owens College with an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice (1984). While at Owens he played 1 year of basketball and he completed his Basic Peace Officer Training at Defiance College (1984). He began his law enforcement career as a special deputy at the Henry County Sheriff’s office in 1984. In 1985 he was hired as a correction officer at the Defiance County Sheriff’s office. In 1986 he was hired by the Defiance City Police Department as a patrolman. In 1987 he was hired by the Defiance County Sheriff’s as a road deputy. While at Defiance County Sheriff’s Office he was assigned to the Drug Unit in 1989 for 2 years (1992 renamed the MAN Unit), he was promoted to shift supervisor in 1991. He was a hostage negotiator, scuba diver, entry team member, and a warrants officer while at Defiance County Sheriff’s Office. In 2001 he was hired by the Village of Continental to be their Chief of Police. Chief Hardy sits on the Putnam County 911 Board, Homeland Security Board (Putnam County), Putnam County Sexual Assault Response Team Board, Homeland Security Board (Putnam County Sexual Assault Response Team (SART), Putnam County Domestic Violence Task Force, Putnam County Police Chief’s Assn. (President 2002-present), Putnam Building Partnership (Victim’s with Disabilities), is a member of the Ohio Assn. of Chief’s of Police and Putnam Peace Officer’s Assn. Chief Hardy has completed over 100 hours of Amber Alert specialized training and attended the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children Chief Executive Officer Seminar in Washington D.C. in 2010. Hardy was Head Football Coach from 1998 to 2008. He was an assistant coach or junior high coach for 9 years prior to 1998. He is currently a volunteer assistant baseball coach at Continental High School. He is a member of the Sons of Amvets Post#599 (treasurer).

GOLF CART INSPECTION

The police department can inspect your golf cart and you will be provided with the necessary paperwork to take to the clerk of courts for title issuance and registration. Golf carts can be operated on the village streets as adopted by the Village of Continental Ordinance.

POLICE GRANTS:

All of the current and past police radios since 2002 mobile and portables, have come via grants. The grants have saved Continental tax payers over $22,000.00
